Bio
Jonathan Tea is a soulful singer songwriter making American roots rock. Tea’s sound blends strong, earthy vocals with well-crafted songs to create a sound that is familiar, yet will especially appeal to those who are looking for something a little bit outside of the box. Drawing from the best parts of the blues, 70’s rock n roll, and classic country and combining them with a modern aesthetic, Tea delivers onstage with passion, tempered with moments of subtle restraint and sensitivity, inviting the crowd into his story and rewarding careful listeners with smart lyrics and a mature sense of phrasing and groove.
The California-born, Texas-raised, and now NYC/NJ shore-based artist’s debut full length album, Coming Home, released July 21st, 2015, has received airplay on over 150 radio stations across the United States and Canada and has been licensed for commercial use by several major networks including Discovery, MTV, E!, and NASCAR. Jonathan recently completed a 13 city east coast tour with dates in NY, NJ, TN, TX, AL, GA, and NC, culminating in a prime slot showcase on 6th Street in Austin during South by Southwest 2016 as part of the Red Gorilla Music Festival. Now back in the studio with a collection of new songs that explore new concepts and sonic textures, Jonathan continues to play regular shows in NYC and the surrounding region.
Jonathan’s resume includes opening slots for Lydia Loveless, Charlie Mars, James Maddock (at 90.5 The Night's Songwriters on the Beach series), and Jeanne Jolly, repeat performances at festivals like Singer-Songwriter Cape May, Millennium Music Conference, and Launch Music Conference, and tour dates from Vermont to Texas and in major cities like NYC (The Bitter End, Hill Country, Arlene’s Grocery, Lovecraft), Nashville (The MD Loft, Belmont Taps, Roosters BBQ, National Underground), and LA (Room 5).
In addition to his solo work, Jonathan has performed on several other artist's albums, most notably having played all the piano and organ parts on the 2016 release, "So On And So Forth" by Nashville singer-songwriter, Griffin House.
